If I have three hosts in a cluster and a fourth host in another location solely for DR purposes, you said I can use Essentials as the DR host doesn't need a license to restore. Rick thanks but given Toby's comments I could do with absolute clarity here. I'm not sure they go to the bin per se, but it is a hard cut from essentials above 6 to a mainstream license, and the license needs to be a regular one for the 6, 7th and beyond. Water under the bridge as we now need the per socket as we are replicating and backing up on several hosts but annoying at the time Veeam said no they actually looked up the company and worked out we were connected and refused the order So my reseller just went and ordered the extra essentials license I needed and invoice it to another operating company in the group. I purchased the wrong SKU which meant I could no longer use essentials and was forced into buying per socket

Much as I love the product their licensing team believe they are some sort of higher authority in life and the universe. I've not yet studied the licensing but I did notice an Essentials edition - does Veeam only need hosts licensing if you are backing up VMs on that host i.e. Incidentally in licensing terms we have three dual socket hosts that we back stuff up on, and a host at our DR site.
